As part of the hotels multi million pound refurbishment, we were asked to do a three day turnaround with Dust Free Sanding Equipment, as other trades were working to a tight handover deadline.
The floor needed to be sanded filled and lacquered, our team worked late into the night and were able to hand it over with half a day to spare.
The painters, electrician, and carpet fittings all managed to keep off it between coats, resulting in an exceptional finish in such short time.
Work Activity: Oak Floor Dust Free Sanding & Staining
Unfortunately as a result of a burglary while our clients were away on holiday, their lacquered wooden floors were trashed. Having gained access by smashing the french windows at the back of the house the culprits then proceeded to walk their glass encrusted muddy boots all over the wooden floors.
As an insurance job our task was to return the floors to their former glory. However, the owner with prior consent from the insurance company were able to take the opportunity to completely change the look of the floors by staining them.
Currently Pallmann have over 30 stains to choose from, ranging from white to black.
Our client wanted a black.
NB There is no such thing as a pure black stain, it will either have a tint of brown or a tint of green in certain lights.
We gave our client the options using samples, but they still had to keep the faith.
Having chosen black with a hint of green the first coat of stain proved to be scarily green. However, a further two coats resulted in two very happy clients and the results you can see from the photos

Work Activity: Wooden Floor Sanding filling staining and lacquering
There was a surprising amount of work in this relatively small job, because of the initial state of the floor and the clients desired outcome. The floors don’t look too bad from the before phot attached. However, if you look a bit deeper the floor was badly cupped in parts and there were sizeable gaps between the boards that the client wanted filled.
We would usually not recommend filling expansion joints, but the gaps between the boards were quite wide and the problem of drafts from under the floor was an issue.
With gaps of up to 3 millimetres or less, jointing compound mixed with the dust from the 80 grit sanding gives good permanent results. Using this method to fill gaps over 3 millimetres will result in a short term fix with long term problems, as the jointing compound will dry shrink and pop out. The solution was to get fillets cut and glued in before screeding the floors with the joint filler.
Using our German Pallmann Spider DUST FREE SANDING equipment we quickly stripped off the existing lacquer and flattened the floor. Going through the grits finishing at 100 grit, the floor was prepared to be stained and lacquered. Using a commercial two part extra touch lacquer, even in domestic jobs, means that our clients are left with quality long term wooden floor restoration solutions, that will last for years.
